Salary

All doctorates awarded by AGTRIAN will be employed on contracts. In the case where national rules prohibit employment contracts, the doctorates will be formally employed through another AGTRAIN partner (the co-supervising institution). In cases where the EU contribution does not cover the expenses set by national legislation, co-funding will be assured before the enrolment of the doctorate. Salary levels vary considerably within the consortium, as do living expenses. A salary top-up model is designed for doctorates with mobility between countries with high and low living costs (see table below). The cost model ensures that all doctorates can uphold reasonable living standards for the duration of their study period.

Amounts vary across institutions due to differences in national legislation and general cost structures.
There will also be significant variation in tax levels and thus differences in the net salary figures.

Social Security and Insurance
Doctoral candidates will be covered by national social security schemes. In general, this gives access to visit the doctor or go to the hospital free of charge or with considerable reductions. Further coverage can be provided by additional health insurances at the doctoral candidate's own expense (depending on the employing institution, these expenses may be deducted from the monthly salary).

Furthermore, doctoral candidates will be insured in accordance with the general terms of insurance for employees travelling outside the country of their employing institution.
